Notes: Dahl update; Blackmon scratched

Rockies outfielder David Dahl and right-handed pitcher Chi Chi González continue to make progress.

Dahl, who was placed on the 10-day injured list retroactive to Aug. 18 with lower back soreness, will hit against González in a simulated game on Tuesday, manager Bud Black said before Monday's series opener against the D-backs in Phoenix.

“David will get some live swings, some intense competitive swings against Chi Chi, and I think a couple other pitchers,” Black said. “Those guys are nearing return.”

The Rockies need Dahl to return and have an immediate impact on an offense that has been up and down this season. He had three hits on Opening Day, but only a pair of multi-hit games in the 18 games that followed. When Dahl was placed on the injured list, he was mired in an 0-for-17 slump. Dahl also dealt with core soreness toward the end of Summer Camp.

As for Gonzalez, he was placed on the 10-day injured list, retroactive to Aug. 4, with right biceps tendinitis. He allowed three runs on five hits in three in three innings in his only appearance of the season on Aug. 4. He was replaced in the rotation by Ryan Castellani.

Worth noting
• Outfielder Charlie Blackmon was scratched from Monday night's starting lineup due to left quad tightness. Black said Blackmon is day to day.

“Charlie was going to get a day off one game this series,” Black said after the Rockies' 3-2 win over the D-backs. “We just decided to do it [Monday]. He was available, he was ready to pinch-it if we needed him. We probably would have pinch-ran for him.”

• The Rockies transferred right-hander Joe Harvey to the 45-day injured list (right elbow sprain). They now have 55 players in the 60-man player pool and 38 players on their 40-man roster.
