Sandlin carries perfecto into 6th before Cardinals storm back

ST. LOUIS -- White Sox right-hander David Sandlin was perfect for 5 1/3 innings during his start Sunday against the Cardinals, on the same day he arrived at Busch Stadium from Triple-A Charlotte.

By the time the sixth inning was over, St. Louis had scored three runs on its way to handing Chicago a 3-1 loss and a weekend series defeat. The individual loss goes to Sandlin, but the rally wasn’t solely of his doing.

Nathan Church became the first Cardinals baserunner with a single to right, followed by Masyn Winn’s single to left. Sandlin got the two-out grounder from Iván Herrera to end the inning, but shortstop Colson Montgomery couldn’t corral it for an error to load the bases.

Left-handed reliever Chris Murphy replaced Sandlin, and left-handed hitter Alec Burleson cleared the bases with a double to right. Burleson leads the Majors with 109 RBIs.

Sandlin, Chicago's No. 11 prospect per MLB Pipeline, finished with five strikeouts and no walks on 70 pitches, with no earned runs charged to him.

The White Sox scored one in the second on a Chase Meidroth sacrifice fly and started the top of the sixth with Sam Antonacci’s triple to right and a Kyle Teel walk. But Miguel Vargas, Munetaka Murakami and Andrew Benintendi could not bring home any runs against starter Michael McGreevy. Chicago also loaded the bases in the ninth, but Montgomery flew out to end the threat.
