CHICAGO – The White Sox couldn’t do anything against Seattle starter Logan Gilbert, being limited to one hit over six innings and 87 pitches Sunday afternoon at Rate Field. Gilbert actually retired the last 16 White Sox hitters faced.

But they did enough against the Mariners’ bullpen to claim a 2-1, come-from-behind victory, rallying for two runs in the eighth against Eduard Bazardo. Randal Grichuk homered to lead off the eighth, followed by Drew Romo’s double to right. He was bunted to third by Sam Antonacci, leading to an ensuing intentional walk of Munetaka Murakami.

Miguel Vargas connected on the game-winning sacrifice fly, scoring Romo despite the ball carrying 243 feet. The bold send by third-base coach Justin Jirschele resulted in a rushed, poor throw from left fielder Randy Arozarena nowhere near the mark.

Davis Martin didn’t get the win, but once again pitched like a top-of-the-rotation hurler. The right-hander allowed one run in the first inning, despite throwing 26 pitches, but gave up nothing more as he pushed through six.

Martin struck out nine over 105 pitches, matching his career high with 19 swings and misses, according to Statcast. He allowed only three hits.
