Daylen Lile named National League Player of the Week

Following a week in which he led the National League in batting average, slugging percentage, OPS and RBI, Daylen Lile was named National League Player of the Week on Monday. The announcement was made on MLB Network. This is Lile’s first Player of the Week award this season and the seventh MLB award won by a Nationals player this year after James Wood (Player of the Week, April 7 and July 13), Luis García Jr. (Player of the Week, June 29), CJ Abrams (Player of the Week, July 27 and Player of the Month for July) and Nasim Nuñez (Play of the Week of March 30) all earned previous honors. The seven awards this year are the most since the 2018 Nationals won 10.

Lile, 23, went 11-for-24 (.458) with two doubles, one triple, three home runs, 10 RBI, five walks, seven runs scored and just three strikeouts in seven games from Aug. 24-30. He hit safely in six of the seven games.

Highlights of Lile’s week include:

• Hit a three-run homer in the eighth inning to extend the team’s lead and finished with a career-high five RBI on Aug. 24 vs. Colorado.
• Homered in back-to-back games on Aug. 24 and 25.
• Had two three-hit games on Aug. 25 and 27 vs. Colorado.

Since Aug. 21, Lile ranks among National League hitters in RBI (2^nd, 11), hits (2^nd, 15), extra-base hits (T2^nd, 7), total bases (2^nd, 29), OPS (3^rd, 1.261), slugging percentage (3^rd, .784), on-base percentage (3^rd, .477), batting average (4^th, .405), home runs (T7^th, 3) and doubles (7^th, 3).
