PHOENIX -- A member of the Diamondbacks' grounds crew was struck in the head by a ball during batting practice Tuesday afternoon and appeared to be fine after being checked out by the team's training staff.
The crew member was working on the home bullpen mound when Ketel Marte hit a home run that registered 113 mph off the bat into the bullpen and hit the worker.
Marte immediately jogged down to the bullpen to check on the worker, who walked off the field under his own power.
The bullpens at Chase Field are located just beyond the outfield wall down each of the foul lines, and there is no netting over them.
Marte returned to the active roster Monday after two weeks on the restricted list, then the injured list.
