Roberts doesn't see much need to add

CHICAGO -- Despite a double-digit lead in the National League West, the Dodgers are a very popular mention in trade rumors leading up to the July 31 non-waiver Trade Deadline, even if manager Dave Roberts indicates that most of the speculation is fake news.
Except for seeking a left-handed reliever, Roberts said on Wednesday, he's happy with what he's got, even in the wake of the second-place D-backs' acquisition on Tuesday of J.D. Martinez.
"A need? I don't think we need anything," said Roberts. "That right there puts us in a pretty good position. Pitching is always a commodity, whether it's the starting varietal or out of the pen. If you really dig into our club, an extra luxury would be a guy to get lefties out."
That's why the Dodgers have been linked to just about every left-handed reliever on the market or rumored to be, from Felipe Vázquez and Tony Watson of Pittsburgh to Zach Britton of the Orioles.
"Every year we talk about it, we're very aware of what's going on around the league, but we still know we're the best team," Roberts said. "Our front office guys are working tirelessly to make us better. If the right deal presents itself, we'll act on it. We're still expecting to win the division and the championship."
As for starting pitching, Roberts has a surplus after Hyun Jin Ryu threw an effective four-inning simulated game on Wednesday, earning confirmation of a Monday start against the Twins. Ryu has been on the disabled list since July 1 with a left foot contusion after he was struck with a line drive.
