Ryu to undergo foot scan; will skip next start

SAN DIEGO -- Dodgers pitcher Hyun Jin Ryu will have his left foot scanned on Monday and miss his next scheduled start against the D-backs.
Ryu was struck on the left foot by an Andrelton Simmons comebacker in the fourth inning of Wednesday night's 3-2 Dodgers loss in Anaheim. Ryu continued to pitch into the sixth inning, removed shortly after allowing a two-run homer to Simmons.
Original X-rays on Ryu's foot were negative, but manager Dave Roberts said the club will "dig a little deeper" trying to avoid a lingering medical issue like the ones that extended the recoveries of Andre Ethier (broken right leg) and Pedro Báez (deep bone bruise on right hand).
"The foot's bothering him, so we're going to move him back," Roberts said. "We're going to get another type of scan on Monday, just to make sure." Roberts said that Ryu wasn't placed on the disabled list because on Sunday he reported improvement.
Roberts said his rotation against the D-backs will be Clayton Kershaw on Tuesday, Alex Wood on Wednesday and Rich Hill on Thursday. The Dodgers are off on Monday.
Ryu is 3-6 with a 4.21 ERA and a save in his only relief appearance as he returns from nearly two years off because of shoulder and elbow operations.
Roberts also said that Brandon McCarthy, struggling again with his command, will throw a four-inning simulated game on Monday at Class A Advanced Rancho Cucamonga to gauge his progress.
Scott Kazmir allowed one run on one hit in three innings of his second rehab start with Rancho Cucamonga on Sunday.
