The Leiter family has its fingerprints all over MLB’s pitching history. Another hurler is starting to follow in the footsteps of those that have come before him.
Cam Leiter, the Dodgers’ No. 21 prospect, twirled his second consecutive start with seven strikeouts in three innings or fewer. On Wednesday, he completed three scoreless innings with 53 pitches (39 strikes), lowering his season ERA to 2.60 across 12 starts with Single-A Ontario. The Tower Buzzers defeated Rancho Cucamonga, 8-5, at ONT Field.
Leiter started his day by striking out the side in the first, working around a ground-ball single and an error to put up a zero. The 6-foot-5 righty got two more K’s in the second, stranding a runner at second base after a single and wild pitch. Leiter then finished his outing with a 1-2-3 third and two more strikeouts.
The nephew of Al Leiter and Mark Leiter and the cousin of current big leaguers Mark Leiter Jr. and Jack Leiter, Cam Leiter was the Dodgers’ second-round pick in 2025 out of Florida State. And while he hasn’t extended beyond the third inning this season, Leiter has stymied hitters throughout Single-A.
He has a whopping 46 strikeouts in 27 2/3 innings, good for a 15 strikeouts-per-nine-innings rate. Opponents are additionally hitting just .216 off of him in his debut campaign.
