Kershaw, Pederson placed on DL

LOS ANGELES -- The Dodgers placed left-hander Clayton Kershaw (back) and outfielder Joc Pederson (shoulder) on the 15-day disabled list Friday.
Kershaw's placement was previously determined after an MRI Thursday revealed a mild disk herniation that won't require surgery. Pederson's status had been in doubt since he sprained his right AC joint crashing into a wall during Tuesday's game. Kershaw's placement is retroactive to Monday while Pederson's goes back to Wednesday.
Dodgers manager Dave Roberts said Pederson would receive a cortisone shot and implied that the outfielder would still be on the active roster if it weren't for the upcoming All-Star break.
"Where we're at, he's going to get a cortisone shot to calm the pain and there's a couple days you have to recover from that," Roberts said. "You're looking at essentially missing 6 or 7 games then you have four days over the break. As far as DL days, it just made sense for us."
Roberts also reported that Kershaw was feeling "considerably better" after meeting with pitching coach Rick Honeycutt and the training staff, but that there was little clarity as far as a timeline for the ace's return.

Right-hander Bud Norris, acquired Thursday from Atlanta, was activated to the 40-man roster to replace Kershaw, while outfielder Will Venable had his contract selected from Triple-A Oklahoma City, a week after he was designated for assignment. Right-hander Layne Somsen was also designated for assignment to make room on the 40-man roster.
Norris made his Dodgers debut Friday night against the Rockies at Dodger Stadium, starting against Colorado left-hander Jorge De La Rosa.
"He's not here to replace Clayton Kershaw. I feel that's pretty clear," Roberts said of Norris. "We understand the value of Clayton and what he does for our ballclub, but we understand that we have to win baseball games regardless of who we miss. I don't think that we're really fazed by it to be quite honest. I think that we're looking at winning tonight and finishing strong to the break."
After a rough start in Atlanta that saw him demoted to the bullpen, Norris was one of the best pitchers in the National League in the month of June, ranking among the league's best in ERA (2.08, 8th), opponents' batting average (.194, 6th) and WHIP (0.96, 9th) in six appearances and five starts.
Venable was signed by the Dodgers on June 14 and was 1-for-10 with a double in six games with Los Angeles before being designated for assignment on June 24 and outrighted to Triple-A Oklahoma City. He appeared in only one game for Oklahoma City, going 1-for-1.
