Hill goes 2 scoreless in spring debut vs. Crew

PHOENIX -- Rich Hill's curveball looked ready for the regular season, as did the Dodgers' lineup.
Hill kept the Brewers off balance for two scoreless innings, while Justin Turner, Chase Utley and Scott Van Slyke combined for seven RBIs on Sunday at Maryvale Baseball Park. The Dodgers employed a late rally to beat the Brewers, 10-8. For Milwaukee, outfielder Ryan Cordell homered and drove in four runs.
"Hill was good," Dodgers manager Dave Roberts said. "The life of the fastball, the breaking ball was good. It was a good first outing for Rich."

Utley had two hits and three RBIs in his three at-bats, and Rob Segedin, Cody Bellinger and Alex Verdugo blasted booming solo home runs for the Dodgers in the late innings. Bellinger's, off Brewers left-hander Andrew Barbosa, sailed over the right-field berm and bounced on one hop onto one of the Brewers' practice fields.

Brewers right-hander Wily Peralta pitched through some early command issues to log two scoreless innings. After his exit, the Dodgers scored seven runs in the next two innings. Turner's two-run single in the third inning broke a scoreless tie, and Utley followed with a two-run double that Cordell lost in the sun. Cordell's two-run homer came in the bottom of the inning, but the Dodgers scored three more in the fourth.

Peralta will make one more Brewers start before departing to pitch for the Dominican Republic in the World Baseball Classic.
"I was a little bit off in the first inning," Peralta said, "but I think I got a little better rhythm in the second one. … For the first one, it feels pretty good."

Hill did not surrender a hit and struck out two. He picked off the only baserunner he allowed to reach, Jonathan Villar, in the first. The left-hander appeared in midseason form. One of his quality curveballs struck out Brewers third baseman Scooter Gennett.
"That was nice that [the curveball] was here today," Hill said. "One of the things was working on first-pitch strikes, getting ahead of the hitters. That's something that's just a must moving forward. Right now, it's just working on the tempo of the game. Sometimes you're a little bit too quick. Sometimes you're a little bit too slow. But that's why we're here in Spring Training."
Dodgers Up Next:Kenta Maeda makes his first start of the spring on Monday against the Rockies, who will start Jon Gray in the first of a home-and-home set at Camelback Ranch (12:05 p.m. PT). Corey Seager, Yasmani Grandal, Joc Pederson and Yasiel Puig did not make Sunday's trip to Maryvale, so they are likely to play on Monday.
