Dodgers win 6th in a row, tie Interleague record

DETROIT -- The Dodgers tied a Major League record with their 13th consecutive Interleague victory, capitalizing on a Tigers defensive miscue with an Adrián González RBI single in the seventh inning en route to a 3-0 win Saturday at Comerica Park.
The Dodgers joined the 2004 Rays and 2006 Red Sox as the only teams to win 13 consecutive Interleague games in a single season. Los Angeles has won six in a row overall, and amassed its sixth six-game winning streak of the year. Detroit has lost six in a row and 12 of its last 14, falling 16 games under .500 for the first time since the end of the 2005 season.

Dodgers starter Hyun Jin Ryu and reliever Ross Stripling (3-4) put up a pitching duel with Tigers All-Star starter Michael Fulmer (10-11), until Nick Castellanos lost a Curtis Granderson popup in the sun for a two-out, two-base error that extended the seventh inning.

Yasmani Grandal battled out of an 0-2 count for a walk to bring up Gonzalez, whose ground ball through the right side brought Granderson home from second. Justin Turner added an insurance run with an eighth-inning RBI single off Alex Wilson before Grandal's ninth-inning solo homer off Shane Greene put the game away.

I thought it was good," Dodgers manager Dave Roberts said of Ryu's scoreless five-inning start. "Not his best stuff, but I thought he competed for five innings. For him to tell me that he wanted to go back out there, and feel good about it, I think that's encouraging. There was a lot more left in the tank for him."
MOMENTS THAT MATTERED
Out of a jam: Ryu appeared to struggle against Tigers batters in the third inning, working the bases loaded. The Dodgers and Tigers were scoreless, leaving it as a crucial moment for Ryu to take back control of what appeared to be a deteriorating situation. After allowing a leadoff single to JaCoby Jones, he walked Ian Kinsler and Justin Upton, leaving him to face Miguel Cabrera. The move would pay off, though, as he got Cabrera to strike out on three pitches, swinging away on a 92-mph fastball.

Jones returns with a highlight catch: Though Gonzalez's go-ahead single was his lone hit of the game, he had two other hard-hit line drives go for outs. One was a 103-mph drive to center that Jones, just recalled Friday from Triple-A Toledo, ran down for a grab. The outfielder covered 46 feet in 3.4 seconds to track the ball down, making it a four-star catch according to Statcast™.

REPLAY REVIEW
Roberts tried to nullify a leadoff baserunner when he challenged Jones' infield single on a ground ball to third to begin the bottom of the third inning. Though Logan Forsythe made a highlight stop, a 1-minute, 20-second review couldn't definitively conclude whether his throw across the diamond beat Jones to first. Thus, first-base umpire Chris Segal's initial call of safe stood. The Dodgers are 18-for-27 in replay challenges this season.

WHAT'S NEXT
Dodgers:Kenta Maeda (11-4, 3.76 ERA) gets the start looking for his sixth consecutive victory as the series wraps up with a 10:10 a.m. PT start at Comerica Park. Maeda is 5-0 with a 1.95 ERA over his last six starts.
Tigers:Justin Verlander (8-8, 4.11) will try for his 30th career Interleague win when he takes the mound in Sunday's series finale, a 1:10 p.m. ET start. He's 29-5 with a 2.94 ERA in 41 career regular-season starts against the National League.
