SAN FRANCISCO -- The Brewers signed fifth-round Draft pick Zack Brown to a deal that includes a $401,700 bonus Tuesday, according to MLBPipeline.com's Jim Callis.
The club has not confirmed or announced the deal.
Brown, a 6-foot-2 right-handed pitcher, was the 141st overall pick in the Draft following two up-and-down seasons at the University of Kentucky. Brown dazzled as a sophomore in 2015 when he went 6-6 with a team-best 3.48 ERA but struggled during his junior year, finishing 2-11 with a 6.08 ERA in 14 starts.
Still, scouts are enamored with Brown's potential. His fastball has been clocked between 93 and 96 mph, and he counters that with a sharp curveball that helped hold opponents to a .249 batting average two years ago.
