Due to the postponement of Thursday's series finale against the Pirates, left-hander Drew Pomeranz will not pitch during the Red Sox's weekend series against the Tigers.
Pomeranz was originally scheduled to come off the disabled list and start Sunday's game, but will now pitch on Tuesday against the Orioles at Fenway Park.
Boston also chose to separate its left-handers and have Steven Wright start the series opener on Friday in Detroit.
Eduardo Rodriguez will now make his season debut on Saturday, while Rick Porcello pitches against his former team on Sunday and Chris Sale takes the mound in the series finale.
Pomeranz was placed on the disabled list with a forearm strain, but was never shut down from throwing and on Monday pitched six innings in a Minor League intrasquad game in Fort Myers, Fla.
"I feel about normal for the beginning of the year," Pomeranz said. "I feel great. I've got 90 pitches in, I feel that's what most people did the last start, anyway, so I feel I'm right where I need to be."
