Thinking out loud: Mic'd up Cease, Langeliers work through 3-K 1st in ASG

American League starting pitcher Dylan Cease and catcher Shea Langeliers were mic’d up during the 2026 MLB All-Star Game in Philadelphia.

During the Blue Jays' ace's first inning that resulted in strikeouts of Kyle Schwarber, Juan Soto and CJ Abrams, Cease worked through his pitch selections with Langeliers, giving fans an insight to the pitcher-catcher dynamic in an All-Star Game.

Cease and A's catcher Langeliers talked through various pitch types to strike out the hometown Schwarber -- who led off for the NL squad -- on a 90.5 mph slider.

Next up was Soto, one of the game’s most dangerous hitters. With the count 0-2, Cease said “let’s throw a fastball down and away.”

That’s exactly where Cease placed a 98 mph heater to strike out Soto, which prompted a “good start, Dylan” from FOX play-by-play broadcaster Joe Davis.

After a nine-pitch walk to Freddie Freeman, Cease and Langeliers turned their attention to Abrams, a breakout star for the Nationals this season. After falling behind the count, 2-0, Cease worked the count back to 2-2. Langeliers called for a slider, which Cease executed perfectly for his third strikeout of the inning.

Cease became the third pitcher in Blue Jays history to start the All-Star Game after franchise icons Roy Halladay (2009) and Dave Stieb (‘83, ‘84). Langeliers, meanwhile, became the first A’s catcher to start the Midsummer Classic since Terry Steinbach in 1989.
