PHOENIX -- It’s good to be home.
Returning to Chase Field after a rough road trip, the Diamondbacks snapped their four-game losing streak with a 9-0 victory over the Pirates on Tuesday night at Chase Field.
With the D-backs desperate for a quality start, Eduardo Rodriguez delivered that -- and more. The veteran southpaw hurled seven scoreless innings, allowing just two hits and three walks while striking out seven.
Rodriguez held the Pirates hitless until Jared Triolo singled to left with one out in the fifth. He became the first D-backs starter to pitch at least six innings since Michael Soroka went seven in Philadelphia on April 17.
The D-backs also entered the night with the worst first-inning run differential in the Majors (-19), but they bucked that trend, too.
Ketel Marte, who had two RBIs, lined the first pitch he saw for a triple to left, Adrian Del Castillo hit a sac fly to center and NL Player of the Month Ildemaro Vargas roped an RBI double to right.
That 2-0 lead held firm until a five-run sixth, highlighted by an RBI double by Gabriel Moreno that skipped off the foul line in right and a two-run bloop single by Geraldo Perdomo.
Pirates rookie Konnor Griffin doubled off Rodriguez with one out in the seventh, but he fanned Jake Mangum and Joey Bart to end his outing.
Jonathan Loáisiga and Brandyn Garcia closed it out with a scoreless inning apiece.
The victory pushed the D-backs back to .500 (17-17), but they face reigning NL Cy Young winner Paul Skenes on Wednesday.
