Flaherty, Bader receive votes for NL ROY

ST. LOUIS -- Cardinals pitcher Jack Flaherty and outfielder Harrison Bader finished fifth and sixth, respectively, in the voting for the 2018 National League Rookie of the Year Award on Monday night. Braves outfielder Ronald Acuña Jr. took home the honor by netting 27 of the 30 first-place votes.

Nationals outfielder Juan Soto, Dodgers starter Walker Buehler and Marlins outfielder/third baseman Brian Anderson also finished ahead of the two Cardinals rookies.
Flaherty received a pair of third-place votes, both cast by members of the St. Louis chapter of the Baseball Writers' Association of America. Bader earned one third-place vote.
Flaherty emerged as an anchor in the Cardinals' rotation and distinguished himself among the best rookie pitchers in baseball. Among NL rookies, Flaherty finished in the top three in ERA (3.34), opponents batting average (.199), winning percentage (.471), innings pitched (151) and starts (28). His 182 strikeouts not only topped all rookie pitchers, but Flaherty also ranked 11th among NL pitchers and third among rookies in franchise history.
The 23-year-old Flaherty held opponents to one or fewer runs in 15 starts, and he gave up more than four earned runs just once.

Though he didn't become an everyday outfielder until after the non-waiver Trade Deadline, Bader, 24, quickly asserted himself as one of the best defensive outfielders in the game. He tied for the NL lead among rookies with eight outfield assists, and he led all Major League outfielders in Outs Above Average (21) and 5-star catch (7) metrics, according to Statcast™.
Bader, the first Cardinals rookie outfielder with 100 hits since Colby Rasmus (119), ranked in the top 5 among NL rookies in home runs (12), runs (61), doubles (20), multi-hit games (23), total bases (160) and extra-base hits (34).
