Nats receive 4 prospects, including lefty Hartle (Guards' No. 25) for Griffin

PHILADELPHIA -- The Nationals moved their biggest trade chip less than 30 minutes before the 6 p.m. ET Trade Deadline on Monday.
The Nats traded All-Star left-hander Foster Griffin to the Guardians and received a package of four players in return. The haul includes left-hander Josh Hartle (ranked by MLB Pipeline as the Guardians’ No. 25 prospect), left-hander Will Dion, right-hander Kendeglys Virguez and outfielder Nick Mitchell.

Hartle, 23, is currently pitching in Double-A, where he is 4-4 with a 3.86 ERA in 19 starts.
Dion, 26, made his Major League debut in May this season. He appeared in 12 games out of the Guardians’ bullpen (4.58 ERA) and is 5-0 with a 3.62 ERA in 21 Triple-A appearances.
Virguez, 22, is 4-1 with a 4.13 ERA and two saves in 25 relief outings this season between High-A and Double-A.
Mitchell, 22, was slashing .240/.358/.360 in 75 Double-A games this season. He has hit 14 doubles, with five home runs and 39 RBIs.
Griffin has been one of the league’s brightest breakouts this season. The 31-year-old returned from three years in Japan, signed a one-year deal in December, and became a dominant starter. At the time of the trade, Griffin was 12-3 with a 3.06 ERA in 22 outings.
