'Dude, I'm not going anywhere!' Freddie has fun with pickoff attempt

Freddie Freeman once stole 23 bases in a season. But at 36 years old, the speed demon days of the Dodgers' star appear to be mostly done -- the nine-time All-Star has only attempted two swipes this year.

That didn’t stop his old pal Michael Soroka from keeping a close eye on him at first base in Tuesday night’s Dodgers-D-backs game.

After Freeman -- who had already homered in the first inning -- got his second hit in the fifth inning, Soroka threw over to first a couple of times to make sure Freeman wouldn’t be taking liberties. It appears Freeman didn’t have much intention of stealing.

Freeman gave him the message that seemed to imply, “Dude, I’m not going anywhere! Chill!” Then, Freddie flashed that smile we’ve seen so many times during a brilliant 17-year career that should send him to Cooperstown five years after he hangs up the spikes.

Freeman and Soroka were teammates on the Braves from 2018-2021 and each have ties to Team Canada in the World Baseball Classic. Freeman played for the squad in 2017 and 2023 and Soroka pitched for the Canadians in 2026. So, it’s fair to say these two have a bond that goes back almost a decade.

Never change, Freddie.
