Yankees-Mets Rivalry Weekend battle highlights 'Friday Night Baseball' slate on Apple TV
“Friday Night Baseball” on Apple TV is back for 2026! This week features a classic Rivalry Weekend matchup in Queens as the Yankees visit the Mets for the latest Subway Series, plus an AL matchup between two teams with postseason plans.

The Blue Jays and Tigers aren't where they want to be as the season hits mid-May, but both have their sights on a return to the postseason. That makes this series a potentially key one, as it could have implications for playoff seeding at the end of the season. Toronto (19-24) is just 3-7 in its past 10 games, while Detroit (19-25) is a similarly disappointing 2-8 and riding a three-game losing streak. But all it takes is one win to get things going in the right direction. The Blue Jays will look to righty Trey Yesavage (1-1; 0.68) to continue to be stingy with runs, while the Tigers will counter with righty Brenan Hanifee (0-0; 1.08 ERA), who's making just his second start of the season.
Yankees at Mets, 7:15 p.m. (WATCH HERE)
The Yankees (27-17) and Mets (18-25) are having opposite seasons on the whole, but lately their fortunes seem to have reversed. The Bronx Bombers are still right in the thick of things in the AL East but have lost five of their past six games. The Mets, meanwhile, are in last place in the NL East but are 7-3 in their past 10 and have won three straight. But in a Subway Series, that doesn't matter much, especially with the amount of star power involved. Yankees slugger Aaron Judge leads the AL with 16 homers, while teammate Ben Rice leads all of baseball with a 1.080 OPS. For the Mets, star Juan Soto hasn't played to his lofty standards so far, but he homered Thursday at part of a two-hit performance and may be about to heat up. Righty Cam Schlittler (5-1; 1.35 ERA) will toe the rubber for the Yanks, while righty and former Yankee Clay Holmes (4-3; 1.86 ERA) will get the ball for the Mets.
