HOUSTON -- Saying his right calf felt neither great nor terrible, Giancarlo Stanton was out of the Yankees’ lineup Saturday, one night after tightness in the calf prompted the slugger to leave a 12-4 win over the Astros at Daikin Park.

“I feel better than yesterday,” Stanton said before Saturday night’s game against Houston. “I’m going to try to give it 24 hours, and maybe [Sunday] see where we’re at and decide what to do.”

Stanton, who said he had not undergone any tests, wouldn’t speculate on whether a stint on the injured list will be required.

“Hopefully,” manager Aaron Boone said, “this will be a short-term thing.”

Stanton, who was on first base after hitting an RBI single in Friday’s sixth inning, said he began to feel the tightness while jogging to second after Jazz Chisholm Jr. walked. J.C. Escarra then hit a line drive that Houston’s Dustin Harris was unable to corral against the left-field wall. Stanton was halfway between second and third waiting to see if a catch could be made before trotting to third. He was replaced by pinch-runner Randal Grichuk.

Stanton, who played only 77 games a year ago, was out of the lineup Saturday for just the third time in 27 games this season. In the 24 games he has played, Stanton is slashing .256/.302/.422 with three home runs and 14 RBIs.
