HOUSTON -- Yankees slugger Giancarlo Stanton left Friday night’s 12-4 win over the Astros in the sixth inning with what was described as right lower leg tightness.

Stanton, who had reached on an RBI single that gave the Yankees a 6-2 lead in the sixth, was at second base and Jazz Chisholm Jr. at first when J.C. Escarra hit a line drive that Houston’s Dustin Harris was unable to corral against the left-field wall. Stanton was halfway between second and third waiting to see if a catch could be made before trotting to third. Stanton was replaced by pinch-runner Randal Grichuk.

“Just some tightness in his calf,” Yankees manager Aaron Boone said postgame in regard to Stanton. “Hopefully, we got ahead of it. We’ll just see where he’s at [Saturday].”

Boone said Stanton alerted him that something was askew when the designated hitter got to second base after Chisholm walked.

“He just motioned to me when he was on [second] base,” Boone said, “and I don’t think he wanted to push it.”

Stanton, who played only 77 games a year ago and has had trouble staying healthy throughout his nine-year tenure with the Yankees, has missed only two of 26 games this season. He is slashing .256/.302/.422 with three home runs and 14 RBIs.
