Giants-Braves finale postponed; makeup date on Aug. 31
ATLANTA -- With Tropical Storm Arthur expected to bring heavy rain to Atlanta, the Giants announced that Thursday’s series finale against the Braves has been postponed to Aug. 31 at 3:05 p.m. PT at Truist Park.
The makeup date fell on a mutual off-day for the Giants and Braves and will be tacked onto the beginning of a scheduled East Coast swing through Pittsburgh and New York for San Francisco. The postponement means the Giants will have to play 23 consecutive games without an off-day from Aug. 18-Sept. 9.
Landen Roupp, who was scheduled to pitch on Thursday, will have his start pushed back to Friday night’s series opener against the Marlins at loanDepot park. Fellow right-handers Trevor McDonald and Logan Webb will follow on Saturday and Sunday, respectively. loanDepot Park has a roof, so the Giants shouldn't have to deal with any more inclement weather for the remainder of their road trip.
The Giants and Braves also dealt with weather delays earlier in the series, as Tuesday night’s opener was suspended due to rain in the bottom of the second inning. The two clubs picked up the game as part of a split doubleheader on Wednesday, with the Giants winning both games to clinch a series win.
San Francisco has yet to record a three-game sweep this year, but it will now have to wait until the end of August to try to finish off Atlanta on the road. The Giants and Braves will resume their season series next week, though, as they’re slated to face off in a three-game series at Oracle Park from June 26-28.
All tickets from Thursday's postponed game will be valid for the rescheduled game on Aug. 31.
