Giants hire 'Amy G' as reporter, ambassador

Longtime sideline reporter Amy Gutierrez will be back covering her 14th season of Giants baseball in 2021, but she’ll be moving into a new role after her position was eliminated as part of NBC Sports Bay Area’s layoffs during the past offseason.

The Giants announced Tuesday that they’ve hired Gutierrez as a multimedia producer/reporter and a team ambassador at community events. Gutierrez, better known as Amy G, will serve as a social media contributor and producer of behind-the-scenes and player content for Giants digital platforms.

“For two decades, Amy has served as a key link between our fans and the Giants through her exceptional work on our broadcasts and in the community,” Giants president and CEO Larry Baer said in a statement released by the team. “We are delighted that Amy will bring her storytelling talents to the Giants and will continue to expand her reach to Giants fans everywhere.”

Gutierrez, who hails from Petaluma, Calif., had spent the previous 17 years at NBC Sports Bay Area, including 13 seasons as the in-game reporter for the Giants. She covered the Giants’ three World Series runs last decade and became a fixture on telecasts, along with broadcasters Duane Kuiper and Mike Krukow.

“I’m thrilled to be joining the Giants organization. While I won’t have a nightly presence on the broadcasts, I will now have the opportunity to go back to my roots as a producer and social media contributor for Giants digital platforms,” Gutierrez said in a statement. “I am looking forward to this new challenge, and even more excited that I will continue working with my Giants family and people I have come to love and cherish for the past 13 seasons -- the fans, the players and coaches, alumni, amazing staff and my two all-time favorite Giants -- Kruk and Kuip.”
