Pence resting left hamstring on first day off

SAN FRANCISCO -- Giants right fielder Hunter Pence was kept out of the starting lineup for a second straight day Saturday in order to rest his tight left hamstring.
One day after being limited to a pinch-hit appearance in San Francisco's 17-inning, 3-2 win over the Reds at AT&T Park in a game that ended at 12:43 a.m. PT, Pence was given the day off by Giants manager Bruce Bochy.
Pence has started 33 games in right field, and he is the only player on the Giants' roster to not have a day off this season. Bochy had hoped to rest the 34-year-old on Friday, but he needed him in the 15th inning after depleting the bench. Pence grounded out to short.
Bochy wanted to give Pence a full day off Saturday with the hopes of getting him back in the lineup on Sunday.
"His plan is still the same," Bochy said. "We're going to give him another day, and hopefully, he'll be good to go tomorrow. We'll evaluate him when he gets in tomorrow and make that call."
Pence has been showing signs of fatigue. Over his past 16 games he is batting just .153 (9-for-59), and he has only one hit in his previous 10 at-bats with runners in scoring position.
The Giants also kept catcher Buster Posey and left fielder Eduardo Núñez out of the starting lineup. Posey hit the walk-off home run for San Francisco on Friday night to end the game after 5 hours, 28 minutes.

Surprisingly, Bochy said his bullpen was mostly at full strength despite having to pitch the final nine innings in the series opener against the Reds.
"We have a couple guys that need a break, but I think we're alright," Bochy said. "A lot of them can give us one inning, a lot of short work."
