GOODYEAR, Ariz. -- Unlike many of his counterparts at this early juncture of Spring Training, Giants left-hander Matt Moore wanted to pitch with a purpose on Sunday against the Cincinnati Reds.
Instead of trying to refine each of his deliveries within his ration of pitches, Moore decided to stick mainly with what was working, trying to better capitalize on "getting in a competitive situation again."
Moore's approach worked. He allowed one run and one hit in 1 1/3 innings in the Giants' 9-5 victory over the Reds on Sunday at Goodyear Ballpark.
"I usually stink in Spring Training," Moore said. "I feel like today was a good building block."
Expected to fill either the third or fourth spot in San Francisco's starting rotation, Moore recorded three of his four outs on strikeouts, reflecting his lively stuff.
Former Giants fill other teams' rosters
The Washington Nationals lead all Major League teams with a whopping four ex-Giants on their list of non-roster invitees to big league Spring Training.
Infielders Grant Green and Emmanuel Burriss and right-handers Mike Broadway and Joe Nathan compose the Nationals' quartet.
Two teams have a pair of former Giants apiece -- the Tigers, (outfielder Juan Carlo Perez and first baseman Brett Pill) and the Pirates (left-hander Dan Runzler and catcher Jackson Williams).
Others who have landed elsewhere, at least temporarily, include outfielder Grégor Blanco (D-backs), first baseman Chris Dominguez (Cubs), catcher Guillermo Quiroz (Indians), left-hander Jonathan Sánchez (Royals), infielder Charlie Culberson (Dodgers) and right-handers Yusmeiro Petit (Angels), Jean Machi (Mariners) and Ryan Vogelsong (Twins).
