Giants interested in Korean INF Hwang

The Giants continue to show interest in Korean free-agent infielder Jae-gyun Hwang, sources told MLB.com's Jon Paul Morosi on Tuesday.
Hwang, 29, is an unrestricted free agent and won't require a posting fee.
Hwang has spent the majority of his career with the Korea Baseball Organization's Lotte Giants, hitting .330/.391/.558 with 26 home runs and 104 RBIs in 118 games last season. He is a .285/.349/.433 career hitter with 114 homers in 10 seasons.

Hwang profiles as a third baseman, which fits San Francisco's needs and could allow Eduardo Núñez to serve in a utility role. The club also signed veteran infielder Jimmy Rollins to a Minor League deal with a Spring Training invite earlier this offseason.
The KBO has historically been known as an offense-friendly league, which makes it difficult for evaluators to project how power numbers will translate to Major League Baseball. The most recent successful transition has been Pirates infielder Jung Ho Kang, who has hit .273 with 36 homers in two seasons with Pittsburgh.
Three other Korean hitters signed with MLB teams last offseason with varying degrees of success in 2016; Minnesota's Byungho Park hit just .191 with 12 homers in 62 games, while Orioles outfielder Hyun Soo Kim (.302/.382/.420) and Mariners first baseman Dae-Ho Lee (.253, 14 homers) were solid contributors.
Eric Thames, who hit .250 in parts of two Major League seasons from 2011-12, parlayed two seasons and 87 homers in Korea into a three-year deal worth at least $16 million from the Brewers in November.
