BRADENTON, Fla. -- Jameson Taillon pitched four strong innings and Phil Gosselin hit an opposite-field grand slam in the fifth inning, leading the Pirates to a 6-5 win over the Orioles on Wednesday at LECOM Park.
Batting with the bases loaded against reliever Zach Stewart, Gosselin ripped his first Grapefruit League homer to right-center field. Gosselin, competing for a spot on Pittsburgh's Opening Day roster, also started in left field for the first time this spring.
"I think the wind helped me out a little bit there, probably, but I put a good swing on it and knew it was going to be in the gap at least," Gosselin said.
Taillon, Pittsburgh's No. 2 starter, allowed one run on two hits while striking out two over four innings. Reliever Antonio Bastardo picked up after Taillon, striking out three over two hitless innings.

"I think I was throwing too many breaking balls when I was behind in the count, something you want to work on in order to get your breaking balls ready for the season," Jimenez said."
Baltimore scored in the first inning on Chris Dickerson's single to right field and Chris Davis' RBI groundout that Taillon deflected.
