Santiago set to begin rehab assignment

MINNEAPOLIS -- The Twins announced Sunday that left-hander Héctor Santiago, who threw a 45-pitch bullpen session Saturday at Target Field, has begun a rehab assignment and is slated to pitch for Triple-A Rochester on Wednesday.
Santiago, who has been on the disabled list since June 7 due to shoulder soreness, appears close to returning to the big league club. Santiago's trip to the DL came after a string of rough outings; he had posted a 9.93 ERA in his previous six starts, allowing 11 homers during that span.
The Twins plan to start Ervin Santana (Tuesday) and José Berríos (Wednesday) in the first two games of a three-game series against the White Sox. Molitor will wait to announce his Thursday starter.
"With [Kyle] Gibson available as early as Friday after today, we are looking at how we want to go Thursday, Friday, Saturday," Molitor said. "If Hector goes out, he wouldn't be in the equation through the weekend."
