His-Story made as Rox overpower D-backs

PHOENIX -- The Rockies hit four home runs and got an excellent start from Tyler Chatwood to beat the D-backs, 9-0, on Friday night at Chase Field. It was the Rockies' third win over the D-backs in four tries this year.
Ryan Raburn, Nick Hundley, Trevor Story and Nolan Arenado each homered off D-backs starter Robbie Ray, and Story's two-run blast tied a rookie record for homers in April. Both Story and Arenado have 10 homers on the season.
"They obviously like swinging the bat in this ballpark," D-backs manager Chip Hale said of the Rockies. "And if you don't locate your pitches they're going to hit them. That's what happens with confident hitters."

Chatwood allowed five hits in 6 1/3 scoreless innings, easily outdueling Ray, who allowed five runs and lasted just four-plus innings. The Rockies tacked on three runs in the eighth off the Arizona bullpen.
"We needed a win like this," Rockies manager Walt Weiss said. "Chatty threw the ball great and he's done that just about every time out this year. The boys swung the bat really well. We got some early runs and kept adding on. That was good to see."

Story's story: The Rockies shortstop stung the D-backs again, this time with a two-run home run in the fifth inning to push Colorado ahead, 4-0. The homer was Story's fifth at Chase Field this season and 10th this month to tie the MLB rookie record for homers in April set by White Sox first baseman Jose Abreu in 2014. More >

Homer-free no more: Coming into Friday's game, Ray had not allowed a home run this season, and through the first three innings he kept that streak going, but it ended when Raburn led off the fourth with a homer.

Chatwood shines: Chatwood rebounded from his shortest outing of the season in his last start to turn in one of his best of the year. The right-hander pitched 6 1/3 scoreless innings. He allowed only five hits and struck out four. Chatwood allowed six hits and three runs in four innings against the Dodgers on April 23.
"We knew as a starting staff that we have not been throwing the ball like we wanted to the last couple of times through," Chatwood said. "That's where it starts, from our starting staff. We have to be able to go out there and throw some zeros and let our offense work."

Rockies: Rockies left-handed pitcher Chris Rusin, who has made four relief appearances this season, will make his first start of 2016 on Saturday. The left-handed pitcher has not allowed a run in his last 9 2/3 innings. He is 9-19 with a 5.21 ERA in 42 career starts.
D-backs:Zack Greinke will take the mound in the second game of the three-game series at 5:10 p.m. MST on Saturday at Chase Field. The veteran right-hander has allowed 21 runs in 30 2/3 innings in five starts this season. He's 1-2 with a 9.72 ERA in 16 2/3 innings at Chase Field in 2016.
