Chisenhall runs into wall, hurts right shoulder

MESA, Ariz. -- After slamming hard into the right-field wall at Sloan Park on Friday, Indians outfielder Lonnie Chisenhall took his time in shifting back to his feet. That caught the attention of manager Terry Francona, who left the dugout and began jogging out to right.
Following a brief chat with Francona and a member of Cleveland's medical staff, Chisenhall exited the Tribe's 4-2 win over the Cubs in the second inning with a right shoulder injury. The right fielder grabbed at the shoulder a couple of times while making his way off the field. The Indians noted that more information would be available after Chisenhall is examined further on Saturday morning.
"The way it was explained was it's a slight-to-mild strain," Francona said. "We'll know more when he shows up [Saturday], seeing how stiff he is. We'll have to see. Once I got out there he said, 'It's getting stiff.' So, let's go get some ice on it and not turn this into something it doesn't need to be."

With two outs in the second, Cubs shortstop Munenori Kawasaki drilled a pitch from Indians righty Carlos Carrasco to deep right field. Chisenhall sprinted to his right and drifted toward the wall, crashing into the fence and falling to the warning track, as the ball ricocheted into the gap to give Kawasaki a triple. Bradley Zimmer, Cleveland's No. 1 prospect per MLBPipeline.com, took over for Chisenhall in right.
Through 15 games this spring, Chisenhall has hit .268 with two homers and six RBIs in 41 at-bats.
As things stand, Chisenhall projects to be a part of Cleveland's Opening Day outfield picture, along with corner outfielder Brandon Guyer and center fielder Tyler Naquin. Left fielder Michael Brantley is trying to work his way back from right shoulder and biceps issues, while Abraham Almonte (on the 40-man roster) and Austin Jackson (non-roster), among others, compete for roster spots.
Infielder Erik González, who is competing for a utility job, also exited Friday's game, following being hit by a pitch on his right hand. Francona said Gonzalez was doing fine, but was pulled as a precaution.
"He's OK," Francona said. "He won't play [Saturday] but that's probably the extent of that."
