Cubs' injury updates: Russell, Darvish

CHICAGO -- Cubs shortstop Addison Russell went for an MRI on Tuesday on his left middle finger, which he sprained during his second at-bat on Sunday against the Mets.
"It was pretty sore the other day in the dugout," Cubs manager Joe Maddon said on Tuesday.
Maddon, who hosted a charity golf tournament in his hometown of Hazleton, Pa., on Monday's off-day, had checked with Cubs athletic trainer PJ Mainville on Tuesday morning for an update to see if Russell could play that night against the Phillies.
Rehabbing Darvish plays catch
Yu Darvish, on the disabled list with inflammation in his right triceps, played catch on Tuesday. Darvish did not accompany the Cubs on their week-long road trip to Pittsburgh and New York, so Tuesday was the first time Maddon has seen the right-hander since May 27.
"I don't know what the timeline is," Maddon said of Darvish's rehab. "There's no finish line. I'm hoping it's not too long, but I think during the course of this week we'll have a better idea of what the finish line will be."

This is Darvish's second stint on the disabled list, and so far he's 1-3 with a 4.95 ERA in eight starts. There have been a lot of comparisons between him and Jake Arrieta, who left via free agency to sign with the Phillies. Arrieta is 5-3 with a 2.66 ERA in 11 starts.
"Give it some time," Maddon said. "Right now, I'm really happy for Jake, I could not be happier for Jake. He hit a home run the other day in San Francisco, but beyond that we would not have done what we did over the last several years without him.
"He's in a good place right now, he's doing extremely well. People have a tendency to jump to conclusions in this game and life in general. Give it time. Hopefully, they'll both have the same kind of numbers after the next three, four years. I'm a big Jake fan, but yes, it's way too early to jump to conclusions."
