These players threw their gloves to record an out

Whenever there is a ground ball hit near first base and the pitcher, common sense says a player will grab the ball from his glove and either flip it or throw it to first base. Sometimes, however, problems arise, and improvisation is needed.
We saw this on May 3, 2026, when the Angels' Nolan Schanuel got the ball stuck in his glove and couldn't make a traditional flip to his pitcher, Jack Kochanowicz, at first base. Instead, Schanuel took the glove off and flipped it to first base to record the out. It was an unusual sight, but we have seen it at times in the past.
Here are some of those cases when players flipped their gloves with the ball still inside to record an out.
