Picollo discusses KC's player development path

There have been few more glowing examples of player development success in recent memory than the Royals, who rode a wave of homegrown stars like Eric Hosmer, Mike Moustakas and Salvador Perez to consecutive American League pennants and a World Series title in 2015.

One of the people instrumental in running Kansas City's player development operation is J.J. Picollo, who joined the franchise as director of player development in 2006 and is currently VP/assistant general manager, player personnel. On this week's episode of Executive Access, Picollo sits down with MLB.com's Mark Feinsand to share his memories of the Royals' golden generation from their time in the Minor Leagues, how a championship makes it easier to teach baseball's fundamentals and much more.
On Executive Access, MLB.com executive reporter Mark Feinsand provides a unique look at the people building Major League teams by engaging in candid interviews with front-office personnel from around MLB. Each week, you'll find out how they broke into the game, why they do what they do and how they envision the future of baseball. Look out for new episodes on Tuesdays.
