J.P. Crawford is making progress towards returning to the Majors.
Crawford, who has been on the injured list since July 31 with left wrist inflammation, made his first rehab appearance with Triple-A Tacoma, going 0-for-3 with a strikeout and playing five innings at shortstop.
There isn’t a firm timetable for Crawford’s return. Mariners' manager Dan Wilson said on Wednesday that the club wants him to build up his innings and at-bats during the rehab assignment to ensure he’s comfortable playing a full nine innings.
Crawford began the year as the Mariners’ shortstop, much like he has for the last half-decade, but transitioned to third base when the club promoted top prospect Colt Emerson. Now that Emerson himself is on the injured list, Crawford’s return could come at a welcomed time for Seattle, which has since called up No. 19 prospect Brock Rodden to start at short.
