BALTIMORE -- Jackson Holliday's rehab assignment with Triple-A Norfolk is over. However, the 22-year-old second baseman won’t be returning to the Orioles quite yet.
On Tuesday, the O’s announced that Holliday has been pulled off his rehab assignment due to right wrist soreness, which is not uncommon following hamate surgery. Holliday had the fractured hook of his right hamate bone removed on Feb. 12 and began the season on the 10-day injured list.
Holliday hit .167 (7-for-42) with two doubles, three RBIs, three walks and a .453 OPS in 11 rehab games for Norfolk. All of his appearances came at second base.
The Orioles said Holliday will be shut down for a few days to allow for his symptoms to resolve. He will then be reassessed to determine when he can resume hitting and when he can begin a new rehab assignment.
Holliday worked out on the Camden Yards field prior to Monday’s 9-7 win over the D-backs, and he was with the team in the dugout during the game. Once Holliday returns, he’ll look to build upon his solid 2025 sophomore campaign -- 17 homers, 17 steals and a .690 OPS over 149 games -- by taking another step forward in ‘26.
"It was great to see Jackson be communicative and open at every turn," manager Craig Albernaz said of Holliday's initial rehab assignment. "It's making sure that he's ready to come back. He also missed Spring Training, so there's a lot of components to this. With Jackson, he got to see the docs, get to see where he's at, get a little plan in place as far as preparation, rehab and what other aspects he needs to take to kind of nip that in the bud."
Baltimore had bad injury luck in 2025, when it used the IL 39 times for 29 players en route to a 75-87 record and a last-place finish in the American League East. The O's are off to a 9-7 start this season, but their health has again been an issue, as they currently have 13 players on the injured list.
Holliday's timetable has become murkier, as it's not clear how long his second rehab assignment might go. However, the Orioles could get reinforcements soon.
Left-handed reliever Keegan Akin (left groin strain) is scheduled to begin a rehab assignment with Triple-A on Wednesday. Right-hander reliever Andrew Kittredge (right shoulder inflammation) will resume his rehab soon after taking a brief hiatus for paternity leave. Catcher Adley Rutschman (left ankle inflammation) isn't expected to miss much time, meaning he could potentially be back sometime next week.
