Marlins 2026 first-round Draft pick Jacob Lombard is showing a knack for the big swing.
Lombard whacked a two-run home run on Thursday, helping Single-A Jupiter to a victory in the Florida State League semifinals, 13-2, over Daytona at Roger Dean Chevrolet Stadium. Lombard and the Hammerheads are now heading to the FSL finals, which begin on Sunday against Tampa.
Lombard, who was 1-for-5 with the homer on Thursday, went yard in the seventh inning to extend Jupiter’s lead to 9-2. He connected with a 1-2 cutter and sent it a projected 384 feet to right-center field, traveling at 102.5 mph off the bat.
The homer marked Lombard’s third consecutive game with a long ball, having gone deep in the first game of the FSL semifinals as well as the final game of the 2026 regular season. That put him at six total home runs in the first 24 games of his career.
Lombard, the Marlins’ No. 4 prospect and MLB Pipeline’s No. 67 prospect overall, finished his first regular season with a .220/.343/.390 slash line. He pounded four home runs with 17 RBIs, though he showed a high propensity to strike out with 39 K’s in 22 games.
The brother of Yankees rookie shortstop George Lombard Jr., Jacob Lombard went 14th overall in this summer’s Draft. The 18-year-old is toolsy in a 6-foot-3 frame, earning 50 or higher scouting grades across the board. He has the defensive acumen to play shortstop, and the bat has serious upside if he can cut down on swing-and-miss against velocity.
