Two of the most gorgeous outfield assists you'll ever see -- both on a fly!

Pirates left fielder Jake Mangum and Phillies right fielder Adolis García sent a warning to all future baserunners on Tuesday: You might want to think twice before you try to take that extra base against them.
Mangum’s assist is the more noteworthy one, because it’s not often you see a throw from the outfield to home plate that so perfectly reaches the catcher on the fly that all he has to do is drop the tag down to record the out. But once Mangum, who entered the game as a pinch-hitter in the seventh inning, fielded a single from the Nationals’ José Tena in the top of the eighth, the outfielder fired a high-arcing throw to catcher Joey Bart that was so spot-on, the ball might as well have had a GPS attached to it.
Mangum’s throw needed to be perfect, too, with shortstop CJ Abrams charging home. Abrams was running at 29.4 feet per second (30.0 ft/sec is elite), but as he slid into home, Bart applied the tag to record the final out of the inning and keep the Pirates’ deficit at 5-4. After the game, it was that tag that had Mangum talking.
"[Bart] did exactly what he needs to do in that situation," Mangum said. "He was ready for it. Deked the tag, applied the tag perfect. Luckily, we were able to keep the game at that score."
The play was reviewed and upheld upon replay. The Nats also ultimately held onto their one-run lead en route to a victory. But that doesn’t make Mangum’s throw any less special.
For the team on the other side of Pennsylvania, García showed off what has long been one of the strongest outfield arms in the sport during the third inning against the Cubs. He scooped up a single by Michael Busch and unleashed a low liner to third base that beat Nico Hoerner by plenty.
García, who tied for the MLB lead with 16 outfield assists in 2021, got Hoerner with a 94.8 mph throw. It was the fastest outfield assist by a Phillies right fielder since Bryce Harper's 96.0 mph assist on May 20, 2019, against the Cubs.
