DENVER – After trailing for most of Thursday's game, the Rockies tied the score in the middle innings then blasted their way to a lead behind a disputed eighth-inning grand slam from center fielder Jake McCarthy.
TJ Rumfield and Troy Johnston opened the eighth inning with singles to center and right, respectively, and Willi Castro walked to load the bases. Then McCarthy unloaded on a 1-0 pitch from Craig Kimbrel, depositing it a Statcast-projected 448 feet over the right-field foul pole to lift the Rockies to a 6-2 win at Coors Field, their first in a six-game homestand.
McCarthy’s homer was ruled to stand after a crew-chief review. Replays appeared to show the drive going above the foul pole before reaching the second deck.
Jose Quintana continued his run of strong starts for Colorado, and though he didn’t earn a decision for his 5 2/3 innings of two-run ball, he kept the Rockies in it as they took the finale, narrowly avoiding being swept on the six-game homestand.
It was Quintana’s third straight start of five innings or more while allowing two runs or fewer. He yielded five hits and walked two while striking out two.

The Mets took the lead in the second on a leadoff single from Austin Slater, a walk to Marcus Semien, a wild pitch and a sacrifice fly to left from Andy Ibáñez. With two outs, Tyrone Taylor hit a single to left to plate Semien, but Taylor was thrown out trying to stretch it into a double.
The Rockies cut the lead in half in the fourth frame, with Tyler Freeman reaching on a one-out bunt single to first, advancing on a walk and coming home on Castro’s single to right off starting pitcher Christian Scott.
Antonio Senzatela pitched the final two innings in relief for his second win of the season.
