Tommy John surgery has been recommended for Mariners left-hander James Paxton, according to a report from MLB Network Insider Jon Heyman. The club has not confirmed the news.

Should Paxton require the surgery, he would miss the rest of the 2021 season.

The left-hander was placed on the 10-day IL with a strained left forearm prior to Wednesday’s game and underwent an MRI scan. He allowed just one run and one walk in 1 1/3 innings in his only start this year.
