MINNEAPOLIS -- Third baseman Josh Donaldson was ejected just minutes into the Blue Jays' 5-3 loss against the Twins at Target Field on Saturday afternoon.
Donaldson, hitting second, hit a ground ball to short in the first inning. He ran slowly to first and was thrown out by shortstop Eduardo Nunez.
On his way back to the bench, Donaldson engaged in a short discussion with home-plate umpire Toby Basner and was tossed out of the game. It was Donaldson's second ejection of the season.
"As I was jogging back, something was said to me from the Twins' side of the dugout about how I was running to first base," Donaldson said. "I decided to respond and the next thing I knew, I was getting ejected."
Ryan Goins replaced Donaldson in the order and was inserted at second base. Darwin Barney, who started the game at second, took Donaldson's place at third.
