Lowrie hits tiebreaking blast for 100th homer

OAKLAND -- Jed Lowrie hit his 100th career home run on Tuesday against the Mariners in the A's 3-2 win Tuesday.
It was an eventful start to the game for Lowrie, who also singled in his first at-bat on a line drive that hit Mariners' starter James Paxton on the upper left forearm, knocking Paxton out of the game. Lowrie then launched a two-run home run in the third to right off Félix Hernández, who replaced Paxton out of the bullpen.
Lowrie recorded his 19th home run of the season, extending his career high. He has been on a tear of late, entering the night with a .381 batting average (8-for-21) in his last five games. He recorded three hits on Monday against the Mariners and two on Sunday against the Angels and had six combined RBIs in the two games. His 76 RBIs this season is a career high (75 RBIs in 2013). Lowrie extended his hitting streak to six games after hitting .134 in his previous 19 games.
The All-Star continues to dominate Mariners' pitching. He entered Tuesday batting .385 (15-for-39) with three home runs and 11 RBIs against Seattle. He now has 50 RBIs in 96 career games against the Mariners, the most against any team.
