NEW YORK -- Jesús Sánchez exited Wednesday’s 2-1 win over the Yankees in the seventh inning after he came down hard on the outfield grass while diving for a ball.

Manager John Schneider and a Blue Jays trainer ran out to shallow right field, where Sánchez stayed on one knee for more than a minute while they spoke with him. Myles Straw eventually replaced Sánchez, entering as the left fielder while Yohendrick Piñango slid over to right.

For now, the Blue Jays don’t think this is anything serious. Schneider said that Sánchez “got the wind knocked out of him,” so the Blue Jays wanted to get him on his feet to see how he felt standing up. They’ll run him through some tests Thursday morning, but at this point, there’s no worry of anything structurally with Sánchez.

Toronto’s outfield has already been complicated by multiple injuries, most recently to Addison Barger (right elbow) and Nathan Lukes (left hamstring). Lukes began his rehab assignment Wednesday night with Single-A Dunedin, so he could be ready to return as soon as this weekend at home in Toronto, while Barger is hoping to get clearance to resume throwing by this weekend.

It’s possible Sánchez would have been out of the lineup regardless for Thursday’s finale, given that lefty Carlos Rodón is on the mound. This likely draws one or both of Straw and Davis Schneider into the lineup.
