Torre named GM of USA's Classic team

Joe Torre was named Team USA's general manager for the 2017 World Baseball Classic on Thursday.
Torre, Major League Baseball's chief baseball officer, managed Team USA in 2013. The team was eliminated in the second round.
"I'm excited to be involved again," Torre said. "I had a taste of international play in 2013 and was disappointed that we didn't advance further. I'm going to do everything I can to build the right team and help [manager] Jim Leyland take us to the next level."
Torre was inducted into the Hall of Fame as a manager in 2014 after winning 2,326 games in his 29-year career, ranking fifth all-time. He won four World Series championships with the Yankees.
He also was a nine-time All-Star in his 18-year Major League career with the Braves, Cardinals and Mets. He has served in the Commissioner's Office since 2011.

"Joe's track record speaks for itself, and we're excited to have his leadership in place as we attempt to secure our first World Baseball Classic title."
