HOUSTON -- Astros outfielder Joey Loperfido underwent arthroscopic surgery on his right hip last week to address a labral injury and hip impingement that were identified shortly after the season ended, the team announced Monday. He won't be ready for the start of the Spring Training.

Loperfido, who was reacquired by the Astros in a trade with the Blue Jays at the start of Spring Training, hit .214 (22-for-103) with seven doubles, one triple and one homer in 40 games with Houston last season. He hit .286 with 38 runs, 15 doubles, three homers, 29 RBIs, 31 walks and seven steals in 61 games combined at Double-A Corpus Christi and Triple-A Sugar Land.

Loperfido made his first Opening Day roster this year and was placed on the 10-day injured list with a right quad strain on April 18. He was optioned to Triple-A on July 4 and briefly recalled on Sept. 15, but he was on Houston’s roster for the American League Wild Card Series against the White Sox.

Drafted in the seventh round out of Duke University in 2021, Loperfido was dealt to the Blue Jays at the Trade Deadline in 2024 with Jake Bloss and Will Wagner -- son of Astros Hall of Fame closer Billy Wagner -- in exchange for pitcher Yusei Kikuchi. Houston reacquired him on Feb. 13 in exchange for outfielder Jesús Sánchez.

In 2025, Loperfido split time between Triple-A Buffalo and the Blue Jays, hitting .333 (32-for-96) with four homers and an .879 OPS in 41 games with Toronto. He had one at-bat for the Blue Jays in the AL Championship Series against the Mariners. He slashed .264/.341/.401 with seven homers, 44 RBIs and 11 steals in 91 games for Buffalo.
