Angels add John Gibbons, Adam Eaton to coaching staff

LAS VEGAS – The Angels’ coaching staff under new manager Kurt Suzuki grew by two on Tuesday, with the confirmed additions of bench coach John Gibbons and first base coach and outfield instructor Adam Eaton.

Gibbons served two stints as the Blue Jays’ manager (2004-08 and 2013-18), and most recently was the Mets’ bench coach, and Eaton spent recent seasons as player development director at Michigan State. Their hiring were first reported by the Orange County Register.

The Angels previously hired Mike Maddux as their pitching coach, who recently left the same position with the Rangers.

Angels general manager Perry Minasian was with the Blue Jays during Gibbons’ second stint as manager. Gibbons, 63, was the Mets’ bench coach under Carlos Mendoza 2024-25.

Eaton, who turns 37 on Dec. 6, finished his 10-season playing career as an outfielder with the Angels in 2021. He was also a teammate of Suzuki with the Nationals (2019-20).
