Altuve gets day off for series finale vs. Marlins

HOUSTON -- Astros second baseman Jose Altuve was out of the lineup for Wednesday’s series finale against the Marlins. Manager Joe Espada said it was simply a day off for Altuve, who hit into a 5-4-3 triple play in his final at-bat in the eighth inning of Tuesday’s 5-3 win.
Altuve, 36, is hitting .232/.300/.402 this season with 12 home runs and 29 RBIs, including 4-for-21 with a home run and a double post-All-Star break. He has played in 79 games this year, missing nearly three weeks earlier in the summer with an oblique strain.
Altuve appeared in his 2,000th career game earlier this year, joining Hall of Famers Jeff Bagwell (2,150) and Craig Biggio (2,850) as the only Astros players to reach that mark. He is one of just 18 players in Major League history with 250 homers and 300 steals, with the only other active one being José Ramírez.
During the spring, Altuve said he hoped to be able to play in 155 games this year, which won’t happen because of his IL stint. Altuve has played in a team-high 387 games since the start of 2024.
