Berrios (blister) expects to stay on schedule

KANSAS CITY -- Minnesota starter Jose Berrios said after Saturday afternoon's 5-3, 10-inning win over the Royals at Kauffman Stadium that he expects to stay on schedule despite leaving the game in the eighth inning because of a blister on his right ring finger.

Asked if he thought the blister might force him to miss a start, Berrios replied, "No, not really. I'm good."

Berrios was working on a gem through seven innings. He had a 3-0 lead, but he noticed the blister while working to the leadoff hitter, Humberto Arteaga, in the eighth. After he yielded Arteaga's first MLB hit and walked Cam Gallagher, Berrios was lifted in favor of Taylor Rogers. The inherited runners scored, and Rogers yielded the game-tying run on Hunter Dozier's two-run single.

"I saw [the blister] and took care of it," said Berrios, adding that he had never experienced a blister issue until Saturday. "It felt like burning. "

Minnesota manager Rocco Baldelli said the Twins will continue to monitor the blister issue.

"It's not on a location or even a finger that you would associate with a very troubling blister," Baldelli said. "But it is something we'll have to treat and look into."
