JT's suspension lifted, but he sits with injury

LOS ANGELES -- Justin Turner’s one-game suspension was rescinded by MLB, but the third baseman was out of the Dodgers' lineup for Sunday's matchup against the Giants at Dodger Stadium nursing a sore left ankle.

Turner was given a one-game suspension and an undisclosed fine for bumping into home-plate umpire Rob Drake after being called out on strikes to end the Dodgers’ 4-3 loss in San Diego on Aug. 26. After that game, Turner claimed that it was Drake who bumped into him, so he appealed. He is still required to pay the fine.

As for the ankle, Turner injured it on Friday night and has played through it, but he left Saturday night’s game for a pinch-runner after being hit by a pitch in the bottom of the eighth inning.

Manager Dave Roberts said Turner was available off the bench on Sunday and, with a scheduled off-day on Monday, was expected back in the lineup when the Dodgers open an Interleague series in Baltimore on Tuesday night.

Kelly looks good in return

Roberts remained vague about reliever Joe Kelly’s leg “condition," but the manager said it didn’t prevent Kelly from throwing a scoreless inning on Saturday night after keeping the right-hander on the sidelines for five days.

“If you look at the stuff, it was really good,” said Roberts. "But there’s a body situation where you can repeat a delivery, and Joe’s just not quite there.

“It’s not a red flag for us, but as we’re heading toward the end of the season, you want to feel right with the body, because that leads to the mechanics. He just felt that every throw; every delivery was different. It’s subtle to the eye, but it’s something he wants to clean up.”
