CINCINNATI – The work to retool the Reds’ bullpen after some free agent departures began on Tuesday with the signing of right-handed reliever Keegan Thompson to a one-year contract.

Thompson's deal is a split contract that's worth $1.3 million prorated when in the Major Leagues and $350,000 if he's in the Minors. He has another $100,000 possible in performance bonuses.

Cincinnati relievers that became free agents this week include closer Emilio Pagán, Nick Martinez and Ian Gibaut.

Thompson, 30, pitched 104 games (23 starts) over parts of his four seasons with the Cubs and has a 3.64 career ERA in the big leagues. Many of his appearances were for more than one inning.

In 2025, Thompson spent the whole season with Triple-A Iowa after being designated for assignment by the Cubs on March 17. He was 6-2 with a 4.50 ERA in 33 games, including five starts.

Thompson's Major League debut came at Great American Ball Park vs. the Reds on May 2, 2021.
