D-backs place star 2B Ketel Marte on restricted list

BOSTON -- As of 20 minutes before the start of Monday night's series opener with the Red Sox, the Diamondbacks still had not put out a lineup.
Not long after that it became clear why, when the team announced that second baseman Ketel Marte had been placed on the restricted list. Marte did not show up to Fenway Park, per a team official, and the D-backs waited until close to game time with the hope that he would arrive.
No further details were released by the team, but infielder Jose Fernandez was recalled from Triple-A Reno and was in the lineup at third base, batting seventh.
Marte had been scheduled to DH on Monday with Ildemaro Vargas playing second base. Lars Nootbaar was slotted into the lineup as the designated hitter instead.
