PITTSBURGH -- Dealing with a low-grade flexor muscle strain in his right forearm, Pirates rookie sensation Konnor Griffin was placed on the 10-day injured list on Sunday. In a corresponding move, Pittsburgh activated 1B/OF Ryan O'Hearn.
In his pregame radio show, GM Ben Cherington said Griffin was progressing well with his injury and had begun throwing, but he was not yet ready to play shortstop. The team expects Griffin's IL stay to be on the short side.
Griffin expressed concern on Wednesday that his elbow wasn’t fully recovering after the game, and he was held out of Thursday’s game as a precaution. He was in the lineup as the designated hitter on both Friday and Saturday, and he had two hits in each game.
Griffin, 20, has rebounded from a slow start, posting a solid .306/.361/.459 mark in May. He has four homers and 14 stolen bases in 51 games in his first season with the Pirates.
